Fish and Fire

The title of this post might not make sense after looking at the first few pics and it might not even after that, but there is a reason.  My friend Keith and I went fishing at the beginning of the month on Braddock Bay (http://nyfalls.com/lakes/ontario-braddockbay.html). We put his boat in at the Braddock Bay at Braddock Bait and Tackle and went up the waterway and then drifted back. Fishing is usually pretty good along the marshy area but nothing was biting... I took like 7 pictures (a lot less than I casted which is unusual).  We decided to call it a day and  went back to the launch and took the boat out.  After getting the boat all setup we headed back to Keith's. That was the fish part... here comes the fire part. I guess there was a lot of burning to be done to get rid of some wood from the previously cut down trees. So a fire was made and a lot of pictures were taken of said fire. All in all I took 222 pictures that day at least 200 of which were of the fire. I have not posted that many it would be too repetitive. There are a few flower pictures and we saw some rabbits but most of the electrons were given over to the fire. It was pretty cool.

The flowers are fading...

The following pictures were taken on the first weekend of May and the flowers are on their way out. The magnolia blooms are starting to get burned edges as are the daffodils. The cherry/crabapple blooms are falling off, but some still look good and the bees have been buzzing about. I quite a few of the Red Admiral butterflies. The dogs were scaring up clouds of them hiding in the grass. It was still a nice day the dogs got a good run and I found a few fiddlehead ferns left. I'm sure there will be a few more flower photos...

Supermoon!

So I've been hearing about this supermoon (http://earthsky.org/tonight/is-biggest-and-closest-full-moon-on-may-5-2012-a-supermoon) thing the past few days and I have to admit I've never heard of it before. So needless to say I was a bit stoked when the skies were clear and the moon started rising. I grabbed the K5 and my 50-500mm and the tripod and headed outside. I took 10 shots before I got it reasonably dialed in, then took another 9 shots, and found 5 I liked (1 which I changed to B&W and posted elsewhere).

Geese

There are lots of geese at the pond near where I work and I take pictures of them all the time. This time of year is special as the goslings are around and they are so cute. Yes they grow up to be flying poop machines that ruin a good day of golf but they are cute when they are young. There are 2 sets of goslings so far this year. The 1st bunch of pics are of them and the 2nd bunch of pics are of the younger ones. I also captured a confrontation but most of them were blurry. All the pics were taken with the Pentax K-5 and a manual 80-200mm lens that I have been messing with.

Magnolias

I would've called this one purple, but there are some white and some reddish magnolias as well. The flowers and buds still look great especially in the wonderful sunshine that we had today. Some are showing  signs of the cold weather that has been occurring on and off the past few weeks as brown spots. The yellow magnolias almost look burnt.

All taken with the Pentax K5 and a Tamron 70-300mm macro zoom lens.

Yellow

Well.... I got a new toy.  I am the really happy owner of a Pentax K5. I know, I know... but you just got the Sony NEX-5n, how can you need another camera? That's a tough question.  I probably don't but wait til you see the pictures... and it's nice to feel the heft of a DSLR.

On to the pictures and the title of this post.

As it was such a sunny day and I needed to test out the K5 I took the dogs for a walk in the park and took a bunch in pics in just under an hour. So I decided to break up the shots, and it turns out I have lots of Daffodil shots. Daffodils seem very expressive to me they way they react to sunlight and seem to look around. Well enough of my typing here are the pics...

Return of A Walk in the Park

Saturday it rained all day, so no walk. Sunday was windy and cold but the dogs and I braved the elements and took a walk.  I had my camera and was prepared to take yet another bunch of macros. The flowers were willing but the wind made it a bit tough. The magnolias looked a bit beat up due to the rain and wind and cold we had recently. But most everything else still looked pretty good. All in all a very productive walk.

EuroTrip 2012 - Day Fourteen - Last Trip

Day 14, our last full day in Westport, was overcast and foggy, but we made the most of it. We went into town and took pics of all the pubs we went to and then took one last trip on the quay road. We were in search of a megalithic tomb on the Clew Bay Archaeological Tail - we never found it. We decided to go back towards Murrisk and checkout the Murrisk Abbey(http://www.clewbaytrail.com/show.php?SitesID=6).  We spent some time there and after a wile it started to rain again and headed back to the apartment for our last night out in Westport.

The next day (15) we drove to Dublin to go to St James Gate - home of the Guinness Brewery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinness_Brewery) and a night out in Temple Bar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_Bar,_Dublin). I however neglected to bring my camera to either place. Day 16 was a mad dash to the airport for wheels up and the long trip home.

In all I took 1168 pictures with the Sony NEX 5n and 44 pictures with the Pentax and 96 with my phone camera - I subjected anyone who read these posts to about 400 of those. I hope they were enjoyed as much as I did taking them.

More Flowers!

It's been a weird spring so far, but the flowers have not disappointed (at least where I go to see them). Took the dogs out this morning for a walk down at the park this morning. I had seen the yellow magnolias were out but had not opened and was hoping to see a few flowers. I guess they were not quite ready, only a few were starting to open the rest were still closed. There were lots more daffodils and lots of cherry, pear and crabapple flowers out.  Was a pretty decent morning and the dogs seemed happy to be out.

EuroTrip 2012 - Day 14, The Pubs

Westport has a lot of pubs and we went to a bunch of them. The ones we frequented the most were Matt Molloy's and the Porter House, but we liked a few of the others as well. Hoban's was a good place as was The Clock Tower. We definitely tried to get to as many as we could. So on the last full day we were in Westport we went into town and I took a photo of the pubs we'd gone to. They are on no particular order.
